Each month, we share the latest news and updates from the Umbraco world to help you stay on top of changes that matter for your website, projects, and long-term planning. September was a busy month, with new releases, security patches, and some big updates for Umbraco Cloud.

At Digital Wonderlab, we’ve also been busy planning what’s next — more on that below.

Security updates

  • Umbraco 13.10.1 (23 September 2025)
A security patch was released to fix vulnerabilities in the Smidge dependency.
      • Affected versions: Umbraco 13.0.0 → 13.10.0

      • Fixed by upgrading to 13.10.1, or by updating Smidge packages if you manage dependencies manually.

If you’re running Umbraco 13, make this upgrade a priority.

New releases

  • Umbraco 16.2.0 (4 September 2025)
A minor release fixing 31 issues. It’s non-breaking, but worth upgrading to keep your site smooth and secure.
  • Umbraco Deploy Updates (5 September 2025)
      • Deploy 13.4.1: Improvements to Block Grid schema migrations, fixes around parsing UDI ranges, and clearer workspace restore descriptions.

      • Deploy 16.0.1: Fixes for remote entity pickers, document permissions, UI layouts, and translations.

Umbraco Cloud updates

Umbraco Cloud rolled out several new features on 3 September 2025 that make managing sites more secure and flexible:

  1. Hostname Pre-Validation
Validate domains before switching DNS, so SSL and routing are ready in advance → less downtime risk.

  2. Managed Challenges
New protection against malicious traffic spikes or bots, using automated verification (CAPTCHAs, geographic filters, etc).

  3. Custom Identity Provider (Public Beta)
Integrate your own identity provider for Cloud portal access and user permissions.

 Version lifecycle & planning ahead

  • Umbraco 13 (LTS)

    • Support phase ends: 14 Dec 2025

    • Security phase: until 14 Dec 2026

  • Umbraco 16 (STS)

    • Security-only phase: 12 Mar 2026

    • End-of-Life: 12 Jun 2026

  • Umbraco 17 (LTS) is coming 27 November 2025
→ A big release to plan for if you’re starting new projects or considering an upgrade.

What we’ve been working on

This month, we held a planning session to explore new packages that could help our clients get even more out of Umbraco.

We’ve been inspired by the success of our Wonder SEO Checker, which helps editors improve content performance directly within the CMS. The package was even mentioned at Umbraco Codegarden 2025, a great recognition of the value it’s bringing.

Building on that momentum, we’re scoping out what other pain points and opportunities we can solve for our clients with smart, editor-friendly packages. Watch this space for more news soon.

What this means for you

  • Upgrade to 13.10.1 now if you’re on Umbraco 13.

  • Keep an eye on Umbraco 17, especially if you want the benefits of LTS.

  • If you’re on Umbraco Cloud, explore the new features — they can save time and reduce risk during go-lives.

  • Check your Deploy setup if you use complex content workflows; the September fixes may solve pain points you’ve hit.

  • And from us: look out for more Wonderlab packages coming soon!

Final thoughts

September 2025 gave us important security patches, useful new Cloud tools, and set the stage for the upcoming Umbraco 17 LTS release in November. On our side, we’re excited to build on the recognition of our Wonder SEO Checker and keep creating tools that make life easier for editors, developers, and clients.
