First black femme survivors' digital safe space
Designing a digital safe space for black femme survivors
Hersana supports black femme survivors and provides access to justice and counselling on all forms of gender based violence. They are creating safe spaces for black women, designed and built by black women.
The brief
Christabel, the CEO of Hersana, has a bold vision for the charity. With her dedicated team, they are pioneering an initiative that offers specialised services tailored specifically for black femme survivors.
Recognising the importance of an online presence, they aimed to design a vibrant and resonant brand. They wanted to create a website design that not only communicates effectively with their target audience but also serves as a digital safe space for black women, ensuring they feel understood and supported.

The solution
A new brand identity designed by RedNine, translated and brought to life digitally by our creative team. A new password protected and dedicated safe space for women using Hersana services and a new live chat service. Significant time and dedication were taken throughout this project on the user journeys to ensure that women’s safety was protected at all times.
We incorporated standard features like a quick exit button with ease. However, creating an account without needing an email confirmation, while still maintaining top-notch security, called for an innovative digital solution. To ensure user-friendliness, we tested the site's ease of navigation and the speed of closure with actual users.

The outcome
Launched during Black History Month, Hersana introduced its inaugural website featuring a secure space and live chat. These additions brought two new services to their offer. This platform has elevated their charity's visibility, offered essential information and guidance to an underserved community, and given a voice to black femme survivors.
